Die Henkel Spur will tour with their specially designed mobile stage from Owhiro Bay to Eastbourne along the same path that the notorious charlatan Franz Henkel travelled in 1831. Under the direction of Jeff Henderson and Stephen Bain this contemporary interpretation of Henkel’s journey throws new light on our musical history.

Tahu combines taonga puoro (traditional Maori instruments) and western classical guitar traditions. Using both original compositions and improvisation, Tahu aims to explore the New Zealand landscape through a unique sound experience. Performers are Mike Hogan (guitar), Henare Walmsley and Alistair Fraser (taonga puoro), with video projections by Rebecca Pilcher.

The performance takes us through the stages of a life communicated to us by the language of the moving body, the compelling lyrics, and the power of the music itself. It is totally unique.
